2019 – A year of success
One more year has passed since our opening in 2018 and Sanos Clinic is growing more than ever, not only in staff and studies, but also in success!
In the past year, we have achieved many goals in collaboration with our study participants, collaborators and as a clinic. We have opened new clinics so that we have the opportunity to enrol participants from all over Denmark. We have hired more staff, all dedicated to research. We have expanded our research area so that we have the opportunity to help people with several different diseases. We have started and completed studies that can contribute to expand knowledge and we have excelled and have been awarded the Certificate of Achievement in connection with two studies.
We have ended the year during this unusual period when COVID-19 has paralyzed much of Denmark. We have temporarily closed our clinics and allowed our health care professionals to help in the public sector.
Opening of new Clinics
In early March, Sanos opened two more research clinics in Denmark, one located in Gandrup, Northern Jutland and the other in Vejle, Southern Denmark. This means that we can offer the possibility for even more people to participate in valuable clinical research, as well as having the chance to help more people in Denmark and around the world with new and better treatment options.
In all clinics, we are ready to offer our volunteer participants high professionalism provided by our experienced and well-trained teams, advanced facilities and equipment, as well as the best clinical services.

Staff
During this year we have welcomed several new employees. We are currently a staff group of 30 qualified nurses, doctors, radiographers, bioanalysts and research secretaries, distributed in the three different clinics - Herlev, Gandrup and Vejle. Everyone works to ensure that clinical studies are comfortable and safe for our participants, while data is collected in accordance with current rules and procedures.
This year's scientific studies
During this year we have started various clinical studies. We have among other things started studies that dealt with:
- Osteoarthritis in the knee - In this study, a new painkiller in the form of injection is tested. The study also includes general medical examinations such as ECG, X-rays, MRI scans and ultrasound scans of the knees. The study is active or will start in the near future in all our clinics.
- Urticaria - Urticaria is a common skin disorder. It usually develops as part of an allergic reaction in which a specific type of blood cell is activated and releases histamine. The study is aimed at those who do not feel adequately medically treated with current current therapies. The study is still active in Herlev.
- Neuropathy - Neuropathy occurs suddenly or develops gradually over many years. It affects young as well as older people. However, the condition increases with age and usually affects middle-aged or older people. The condition can be painful and this study investigates a new potential pain-relieving treatment. The study is active in Herlev and is expected to start in Gandrup during 2020.
- High Cholesterol - Continuously elevated cholesterol can form vascular narrowings in several parts of the body. Currently, we have a long-term study examining a new but already known preparation that reduces the amount of cholesterol in the blood. The study is active in Herlev.
- Atopic eczema - In a year, one in 10 Danes experience having Atopic Eczema. The skin turns red, it swells and itches and small blisters may appear. For many, it develops into a chronic disease where the skin thickens and scaly with painful cracks. In this study, participants were to apply a medical cream. The experiment has ended.
- Hand eczema - Hand eczema can occur because you have a congenital tendency to eczema, so the skin is especially vulnerable. It may be due to past or current atopic eczema. However, hand eczema is more often due to contact of the skin with allergenic substances or substances that directly irritate the skin. In this study, participants were to apply a medical cream. The experiment has just ended.
- Asthma - The research project is being conducted to evaluate whether the new treatment can replace the prednisolone treatment. The study is almost completed and new participants are no longer included.
- Ulcerative colitis - A diffuse, non-specific inflammation of the intestine, where diarrhea and bloody stools are normal symptoms of the disease. The research project investigates whether a new type of biological treatment has a beneficial effect on the disease. The study is almost completed and new participants are no longer included.
In our clinics you have the opportunity to try out the latest medicines, which can provide a unique treatment option. In most studies, however, there will also be a group of participants who do not receive active treatment, also called placebo treatment. Both groups of participants are equally important to the research and the same studies are made during the study period.
We take the time to ensure that you have the best experience when participanting in a clinical study. We know that it is important to feel safe and informed, therefore we answer any questions that may arise before, during or after you have participated in a study.
In the coming year, we look forward to starting new studies. We are already preparing to start a large Alzheimer's study and we already know that there will be more arthritis and other studies aimed at people with high cholesterol.
You can get an overview of active and upcoming studies on our website. Here you can also register if you want to participate in a clinical study:
Awarded the Certificate of Achievement
In the past year, we were honored and awarded two certificates for being the clinic that globally recruited the most participants. We received the Certificate of Achievement in a large phase 2 study which dealt with pain management of osteoarthritis. We also received a recognized certificate in a phase 2b study in which Sanos was the clinic that recruited the most participants with chronic hand eczema.
A big thank you to everyone
It has been an incredibly exciting year where we have seen some of our ambitions come true. A year in which we have worked on what we love most, namely research, and we are proud to be able to contribute to new and better treatment options that can improve the quality of life and make a difference for people in Denmark and around the world. We have already set a lot of new goals for the coming year.
A big thank you to all of you who have already participated or who are currently participating in one of our studies. Thank you to all those who have shown interest in our current and upcoming studies by contacting one of our clinics or having signed up through one of our campaigns.
